Abstract:
Sakit Al-Islam Bandung periode April-Juni 2016.
Indonesia has a poor implementation of exclusive breast feeding which mainly
because mothers feel they produce less breast milk and hence they give formula,
but this actually can be prevented by breast care in the third trimester. This study
aims to investigate the relationship between breast care in the third trimester of
pregnant women to the increased weight of the baby in the first one month at the
Al-Islam Hospital Bandung from April to June, 2016. This research method used
analytical observational with cross sectional approach. The sample in this study
were 60 respondents were calculated by the formula test of hypotheses on
different average, using consecutive sampling method. Statistical test used
unpaired t test. The results showed that women who undergo breast care are more
in the age group of 20-30 years old (80%), not working (70%), and expected her
first child (73%). Statistical test showed significant results (P=,011). In
conclusion, there was a significant association between breast care in the third
trimester pregnant women with the increasing weight in infants in the first one
month. This is because women who undergo breast care, will have more
stimulation of the prolactin hormone, hence they will produce the breast milk
more. This research recommendations addressed to health providers to provide
information to pregnant women to perform breast care that her breast milk is
enough to exclusive breastfeeding.
