dc.description.abstract Instructional communication is derived from educational communication, which is methodic-theoretical focusing more on the operational planning and implementation pattern supported by the theory for the successful effect on the behavior change of a certain target. Instructional communication can control the behavior change. The instructional process can be conducted through both intrapersonal communication and interpersonal communication. Communication becomes an interactive process conducted in two-way traffic of communication. In teaching a foreign language communicatively, various new methods need to be always developed, especially teaching English for early age children. One of the methods is Phonics method. Phonics method is expected to be the alternative in teaching English for children. This method can teach reading progressively, since it is the structured program giving the phonics ability to children. The goal is to develop the basic reading ability of children as quickly as possible. With phonics method, children will understand more the relationship between the spelling and sounds used in a language and find out the differences caused by the relationship. The activity and practice given will be selectively chosen, applying some various experiences possessed by them, then enlarging their knowledge to learn how to read properly. The research is conducted in a children class studying English where this method is applied. The method used is a case study. The research is aimed to know the effectiveness of Phonics method in improving the instructional communication in teaching English for children. The By this research, it can be found out: (1) The student’s listening ability, (2) the student’s reading ability, and (3) the student’s writing ability.
