Abstract. Today, there are so many individuals from various ages who admire celebrity figures. BTS is one of the most popular KPop groups nowadays, and has many fans from various countries. According to Raviv, Bar-Tal & Ben-Horin (1996), worship of pop idols will diminish and even disappear when individuals enter the period of early adulthood development, but in reality there are still many early adult individuals who worship celebrities like members of the Bandung BTS fansclub. In addition, according to Tafarodi & Swann (2001), early adulthood has had a positive valuation of itself compared to adolescents, but there are still many members of the Bandung BTS fansclub in early adulthood who judge themselves negatively. The purpose of this study was to see how closely the relationship between self-esteem and pathological borderline celebrity worship in the early adult members of Bandung BTS fansclub. The theory used in this study is the theory of self-esteem from Tafarodi & Swann (2001), and the theory of celebrity worship from Maltby, et al (2005). The measuring instrument used in this study is the Self Liking / Self Competence Scale-Revised (SLCS-R) compiled by Tafarodi & Swann (2001) to measure the variables of self-esteem and Celebrity Attitude Scale compiled by Maltby, et al (2006) to measure Celebrity Worship then looks at the results on borderline pathological aspects. This study was conducted on 48 respondents of early adulthood who were in the borderline pathological aspect. The researcher used inferential statistical analysis techniques in the SPSS version 25 for Windows application and obtained r = -0.527 with p = 0,000 which showed a fairly close negative relationship between self-esteem and pathological borderline celebrity worship. This means that the lower the self-esteem the higher the pathological borderline celebrity worship in the early adult members of the Bandung BTS fansclub.Keywords: Self Esteem, Celebrity Worship, Pathological Borderline, Early Adulthood Abstrak. Sekarang ini banyak sekali individu dari berbagai kalangan usia yang mengagumi tokoh selebriti. BTS merupakan salah satu grup KPop yang paling populer saat ini dan memiliki banyak penggemar dari berbagai negara. Menurut Raviv, Bar-Tal & Ben-Horin (1996) pemujaan terhadap idola pop akan berkurang bahkan menghilang ketika individu memasuki masa perkembangan dewasa awal, namun kenyataannya masih banyak ditemukan individu usia dewasa awal yang melakukan pemujaan terhadap selebriti seperti anggota fansclub BTS Bandung. Selain itu, menurut Tafarodi & Swann (2001) dewasa awal sudah memiliki penilaian yang positif mengenai dirinya sendiri dibandingkan pada remaja, namun masih banyak anggota fansclub BTS Bandung usia dewasa awal yang menilai dirinya negatif. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat seberapa erat hubungan antara self esteem dengan pathological borderline celebrity worship pada dewasa awal anggota fansclub BTS Bandung. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori self esteem dari Tafarodi & Swann (2001), dan teori celebrity worship dari Maltby dkk (2005). Alat ukur yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Self Liking/Self Competence Scale-Revised (SLCS-R) yang disusun oleh Tafarodi & Swann (2001) untuk mengukur variabel self esteem, dan Celebrity Attitude Scale yang disusun oleh Maltby dkk (2006) untuk mengukur Celebrity Worship kemudian dilihat hasil pada aspek pathological borderline. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada 48 responden usia dewasa awal yang berada pada aspek pathological borderline. Peneliti menggunakan teknik analisis statistic inferensial pada aplikasi SPSS versi 25 for Windows dan didapatkan r = -0,527 dengan p = 0,000 yang menunjukkan adanya hubungan negatif yang cukup erat antara self esteem dengan pathological borderline celebrity worship. Artinya semakin rendah self esteem maka semakin tinggi pathological borderline celebrity worship pada dewasa awal anggota fansclub BTS Bandung.Kata Kunci: Self Esteem, Celebrity Worship, Pathological Borderline, Dewasa Awal |
