Abstract. For a water polo athlete, lung health is an important thing to maintain, mainly due to the fact that it is a more physically challenging sport compared to other sports. Despite this fact, there are still many water polo athletes who smoke, even though they know that smoking can decrease lung performance and lead to a decrease in performance. This smoking behavior is observable in the X Provincial Athlete Training Camp for water polo. The purpose of this study is to obtain empirical data about the description of Health Belief among water polo athletes who smoke. A descriptive study method is used in this study. The subjects of the study are athletes of the provincial water polo, those in the teenage category, who smoke; a total of 17 people. Data and supporting information are collected using a Health Belief measuring tool based on the Rosenstock theory developed by Becker & Oliver, adjusted based on the phenomenon being studied. From the data analysis, it was discovered that Health Belief among athletes of X Provincial Athlete Training Camp for water polo are 76.5% (high). High aspect of Health Belief is considered a part of Perceived Benefits and Health Motivation. The significant factors causing this phenomenon are encouragement from friends who often invite them to smoke, and the fact that athletes smoke only when with friends. In addition, another significant factor is the experience of family/friends who are sick from smoking.Keywords: Health belief Model, Smoking, Athlete Abstrak. Bagi seorang atlet polo air, kesehatan paru-paru merupakan hal yang penting untuk dijaga karena olahraga yang dilakukan merupakan olahraga yang lebih menantang secara fisik maupun psikis dibandingkan dengan olahraga lain. Kenyataannya, di lapangan masih banyak atlet polo air yang masih merokok, meskipun mereka tahu bahwa merokok dapat menurunkan kinerja paru-paru dan mengakibatkan penurunan pada performa di lapangan. Perilaku merokok tersebut terlihat pada atlet pelatda polo air X. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh data empiris mengenai gambaran Health Belief pada atlet polo air Provinsi X yang merokok. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode studi deskriptif. Subjek penelitian adalah atlet pelatda polo air Provinsi X yang merokok berjumlah 17 orang. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan alat ukur Health Belief yang dikonstruksikan berdasarkan teori Rosenstock yang dikembangkan oleh Becker & Oliver yang disesuaikan berdasarkan fenomena yang diteliti. Dari hasil pengolahan data didapatkan bahwa Health Belief atlet pelatda polo air provinsi X sebagian besar adalah tinggi sebanyak 76,5%. Aspek Health Belief yang tinggi adalah Perceived Benefits dan Health Motivation. Adapun faktor signifikan penyebab Health Belief atlet tinggi namun masih merokok adalah faktor teman yang sering mengajak mereka merokok dan atlet merokok hanya saat bersama teman. Selain itu, faktor lain yang signifikan adalah pengalaman adanya keluarga/ teman yang sakit karena merokok.Kata Kunci: Health Belief Model, Perilaku Merokok, Atlet |
