Abstract. The quality of coal in indonesia generally classified as low rank coal such as lignite (brown coal) which have high moisture content so that the calorie value is low. To increase the utilization of the low rank coal usage, it is required to be upgraded to enhances the coal quality and has more economic value. One of the methods of coal upgrading is coal drying. In this study, coal sample comes from Peranap area was prepared to be 2 mm, 2.35 mm, 4,75 mm, and 9,5 mm in size and then the sample was heated on the temperature of 1000C, 1500C, dan 2000C after that, finacoal was spraid to the coal sample. The addition of finacoal is to protect the size degradation due to the weather as a result the quality of coal deceased. Result indicates that the upgrading process at a sample fraction size of ≤ 2 mm with a heating temperature of 2000C the inherent moisture content decreased from 13,97 % to be 5,27 %. Ash content before process of 7,31 % and after process of 6,77 %. Volatile matter content from 40.9 % increased to be 43,34 %. Fixed carbon before process of 37,82 % then increased after process 44,62 %. Calorific value from 5.128 cal/gr increased to be 5.774 cal/gr. Coal drying process was effective to reduce moisture content, so that the calorific value was increased.Keywords: Low Rank Coal, Coal Drying, Finacoal. Sebagian besar kualitas batubara di Indonesia termasuk ke dalam batubara peringkat rendah seperti lignit (brown coal) yang memiliki kadar air tinggi sehingga mempunyai nilai kalor rendah. Untuk meningkatkan pemanfaatan batubara peringkat rendah, sebelumnya perlu di lakukan suatu proses untuk meningkatkan kualitas (uprading) sehingga memiliki nilai ekonomis tinggi. Salah satu metode upgrading yang akan diterapkan disini adalah dengan cara coal drying. Conto batubara yang berasal dari daerah Peranap di preparasi dengan ukuran 2 mm, 2,35 mm, 4,75 mm dan 9,5 mm serta di panaskan pada suhu 1000C, 1500 C, dan 2000C kemudian ditambahkan finacoal pada batubara setelah proses pemanasan untuk menjaga tidak terjadinya degradasi (pengecilan ukuran) karena pengaruh cuaca sehingga kualitas batubara tersebut menurun. Kondisi optimal untuk proses tersebut adalah ukuran butir batubara ≤ 2 mm dengan suhu pemanasan 200o C. Pada kondisi tersebut Inherent moisture sebelum proses 13,97 % turun menjadi 5,27 %. Kadar abu sebelum proses 7,31 % dan setelah proses turun menjadi 6,77 %. Kadar zat terbang sebelum proses 40,9 % setelah diproses mengalami kenaikan menjadi 43,34 %. Fixed carbon sebelum proses 37,82 % meningkat menjadi 44,62 %. Nilai kalor sebelum proses 5128 cal/gr menjadi 5774 cal/gr. Hasil menunjukan bahwa proses coal drying efektif untuk menurunkan kadar air, sehingga nilai kalor meningkat.Kata Kunci : Batubara peringkat rendah, Coal Drying, Finacoal. |
