The Relationship of Pain Intensity with Sleep Quality of Diabetic Neuropathy Patients at Puskesmas Salam Bandung

dc.description Indonesia is among the top 10 countries with the highest number of Diabetic Mellitus (DM) disease in the world. According to the Ministry of Health Republic of Indonesia, most of DM complication is diabetic neuropathy by 54%. Diabetic neuropathy sufferers generally feel the symptoms of neuropathic pain such as  sense of tingling, burning, piercing, and tearing. Symptoms of neuropathic pain affect the quality of sleep of diabetic neuropathy patients. The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship of pain intensity with sleep quality of diabetic neuropathy patient at Puskesmas Salam Bandung over the period of March - May 2017. This research is an observational analytic research with cross sectional approach. The data were obtained from the validated PSQI questionnaire and the pain intensity assessment using numeric rating scale (NRS) was done to 44 respondents with consecutive sampling method. The results showed that the majority of diabetic neuropathy respondents had moderate pain intensity (59.1%) and poor sleep quality (75.5%). There is a statistically significant relationship between pain intensity and sleep quality, with the value of p ≤ 0.001 (p ≤ 0.05). In this research, it was concluded, diabetic neuropathy patients had moderate pain intensity and poor sleep quality, and there is a significant relationship between the intensity of pain and sleep quality.
dc.description Indonesia termasuk 10 besar negara dengan jumlah penyakit Diabetes Melitus (DM) terbanyak di dunia. Menurut Kementerian Kesehatan RI,  komplikasi DM terbanyak adalah neuropati diabetik sebesar 54%. Pasien neuropati diabetik umumnya sebagian besar merasakan adanya gejala nyeri neuropati seperti rasa kesemutan, terbakar, tertusuk dan tersobek. Gejala nyeri neuropati tersebut mempengaruhi kualitas tidur pasien neuropati diabetik. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan intensitas nyeri dengan kualitas tidur pada pasien neuropati diabetik di Puskesmas Salam Kota Bandung periode Maret – Mei 2017. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian analitik observasional dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Data diperoleh dari hasil kuesioner PSQI yang sudah tervalidasi dan penilaian intensitas nyeri menggunakan numeric rating scale (NRS) dilakukan kepada pasien sebanyak 44 orang dengan metode consecutive sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas pasien neuropati diabetik memiliki intensitas nyeri sedang (59,1%) dan kualitas tidur yang buruk (75,5%). Terdapat hubungan yang bermakna secara statistik antara intensitas nyeri dengan kualitas tidur, dengan nilai p ≤ 0,001  (p ≤ 0,05). Pada penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa pasien neuropati diabetik di Puskesmas Salam memiliki intensitas nyeri sedang dan kualitas tidur buruk dan terdapat hubungan bermakna antara intensitas nyeri dengan kualitas tidur.
