Abstract. Diarrhea is a disease that is often experienced by many people, one of which is caused by the bacteria Shigella dysenteriae. Therefore, it is important to develop treatments to prevent diarrhea. However, alternative treatments have not been found to be the right natural ingredients to overcome the diarrhea. To find out the antibacterial activity from natural materials in the form of Chaetoceros calcitrans yellow algae culture on Shigella dysenteriae, an analysis of several journals was conducted to discuss the potential microalgae of Chaetoceros calcitrans as an antibacterial and the potential of other microalgae against Shigella dysenteriae. Based on the results of comparisons that have been made, that the culture of Chaetoceros calcitrans using Guillard F / 2 media at a temperature of 20 ° -28 ° C is able to grow well. Chaetoceros calcitrans microalgae has secondary metabolites, namely terpenoids, flavonoids, and tannins which are based on research on other algae, have antibacterial activity.Keywords: Chaetoceros calcitrans, Shigella dysenteriae, algae micro cultureAbstrak. Diare merupakan penyakit yang sering dialami oleh banyak orang salah satunya yang diakibatkan oleh adanya bakteri Shigella dysenteriae. Oleh karena itu, penting untuk mengembangkan pengobatan mencegah diare. Namun, belum ditemukan pengobatan alternatif dari bahan alam yang tepat untuk mengatasi diare tersebut. Untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri dari bahan alam berupa hasil kultur alga kuning Chaetoceros calcitrans  terhadap bakteri Shigella dysenteriae, maka dilakukan penganalisaan terhadap beberapa jurnal yang membahas tentang potensi mikroalga Chaetoceros calcitrans sebagai antibakteri dan potensi mikroalga lain terhadap bakteri Shigella dysenteriae. Berdasarkan hasil perbandingan yang telah dilakukan, bahwa kultur Chaetoceros calcitrans dengan menggunakan media Guillard F/2 pada kondisi suhu 20°-28°C mampu tumbuh dengan baik. Mikroalga Chaetoceros calcitrans memiliki senyawa metabolit sekunder yaitu terpenoid, flavonoid, dan tanin yang berdasarkan penelitian pada alga lain, memiliki aktivitas sebagai antibakteri.Kata Kunci: Chaetoceros calcitrans, Shigella dysenteriae, kultur mikroalga
