Abstract. One of the natural sunscreen agents is a flavonoid compound which can be made into emulgel dosage forms. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of sunscreens from flavonoid types and the efforts that must be considered in sunscreen emulgel preparations that meet the requirements. This research was conducted using the literature review method. The type of flavonoid compound that is most effective as a natural sunscreen agent has an OH group at position 3 ', 4' on ring B and position 3 on ring C, because it can act as a strong antioxidant, it can help protect the skin from radiation caused by ultraviolet rays. In emulgel preparations that must be considered are emulgators and gelling agents which will increase viscosity of the emulgel preparation so that the stability of the emulgel preparation is better and the adhesion of the preparation increases so that it protects the skin from ultraviolet radiation in a relatively longer time.Keywords: Ultraviolet light, sunscreen, flavonoids, antioxidant, emulgel.Abstrak.Salah satu agen tabir surya alami  adalah senyawa flavonoid yang dapat dibuat ke dalam bentuk sediaan emulgel. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui efektifitas tabir surya dari jenis flavonoid serta upaya yang harus diperhatikan dalam sediaan emulgel tabir surya  yang memenuhi persyaratan.  Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode review literatur. Jenis senyawa flavonoid yang paling efektif sebagai agen tabir surya alami yang memiliki gugus OH pada posisi 3’, 4’ pada cincin B serta posisi 3 pada cincin C, karena dapat berperan sebagai antioksidan yang kuat sehingga dapat membantu melindungi kulit dari radiasi akibat sinar ultraviolet. Pada sediaan emulgel yang harus diperhatikan adalah emulgator dan gelling agent yang akan meningkatkan viskositas sediaan emulgel sehingga stabilitas sediaan emulgel menjadi lebih baik dan daya lekat sediaan meningkat sehingga melindungi kulit dari radiasi sinar ultraviolet dalam waktu relatif lebih lama.Kata Kunci: Sinar ultraviolet, tabir surya, flavonoid, antioksidan, emulgel.
