Abstract. Iron ore density in nature is quite abundant because it is the main mineral in the compilers of the earth's plates. But even so, this iron ore quarry must be searched beforehand which if in the mining world is at the exploration stage which is divided into two stages namely preliminary exploration and detailed exploration. In this research, we will specifically discuss preliminary exploration. Preliminary exploration activities, can now be supported using an indirect exploration method with remote sensing technology. This method is carried out to reduce the area of potential iron ore quarrying as a basis for the initial location of exploration activities to be more efficient in terms of cost, time, and energy. The application of the remote sensing method in this study was carried out at the ML (Mining License) on behalf of PT. Lisindo Sentosa, located in Aesesa District, Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province with an area of ML (Mining License) covering an area of 1,875 Ha. The results of this study were examined based on anomalies in the form of rock variations that would appear to be visible in the form of color phenomena that emerged as a result of a combination of Landsat 8 image channels. In addition, estimation of rock variations based on relief from topographic analysis was also carried out. Based on the hue, obtained areas that could potentially occur contact metasomatism zones marked by bright and gray color variations that indicate variations in carbonate rocks (bright colors) and intermediate-ultramafic rocks (gray colors) that support the theory of contact metasomatism zone formation . Whereas based on relief, variations of intermediate-ultramafic rocks and carbonate rocks are shown with high relief conditions. Based on the aspect of the formation, it can be identified that there are potential areas of primary iron ore based on colors of ± 973.13 Ha in the Northwest-South direction of ML (Mining License) and based on reliefs of ± 426.87 Ha in the West-Southeast direction of ML (Mining License)  from the total area 1,875 Ha. The recommendation area based on the combination of the two parameters has an area of ± 396.7 Ha in the Southwest direction and slightly in the North direction of the ML research location.Keywords: Remote Sensing, Primary Iron Ore, FormationAbstrak. Keterdapatan bijih besi di alam cukup melimpah karena merupakan mineral utama dalam penyusun lempeng bumi. Namun meskipun demikian, bahan galian bijih besi ini harus dilakukan pencarian terlebih dahulu yang jika dalam dunia pertambangan berada pada fase eksplorasi yang dibagi 2 yaitu tahapan eksplorasi pendahuluan dan eksplorasi rinci. Pada penelitian ini, khusus akan membahas mengenai eksplorasi pendahuluan. Kegiatan eksplorasi pendahuluan, kini dapat ditunjang menggunakan suatu metode eksplorasi tidak langsung dengan teknologi penginderaan jauh (remote sensing). Metode ini dilakukan untuk mereduksi wilayah yang berpotensi terdapat bahan galian bijih besi sebagai acuan untuk lokasi awal mula kegiatan eksplorasi dilakukan agar dapat lebih efisien baik dari segi biaya, waktu, dan tenaga. Penerapan metode remote sensing pada penelitian ini dilakukan di IUP atas nama PT.Lisindo Sentosa yang berlokasi di Kecamatan Aesesa, Kabupaten Nagekeo, Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur dengan luasan IUP seluas 1.875 Ha. Hasil dari penelitian ini dikaji berdasarkan anomali berupa variasi batuan / formasi yang akan tampak terlihat berupa gejala rona/warna yang muncul hasil dari kombinasi saluran citra landsat 8 (band). Selain itu dilakukan juga pendugaan variasi batuan berdasarkan relief hasil analisis topografi. Berdasarkan rona, diperoleh daerah yang berpotensi dapat terjadi zona metasomatisme kontak yang ditandai dengan variasi warna cerah dan abu-abu yang mengindikasikan adanya variasi batuan karbonatan (rona cerah) dan batuan intermediet-ultrabasa (rona abu-abu) yang mendukung teori keterbentukan zona metasomatisme kontak. Sedangkan berdasarkan relief, variasi batuan intermediet - ultra basa dan batuan karbonatan ditunjukan dengan kondisi relief tinggi. Berdasarkan aspek formasi tersebut, dapat diidentifikasi adanya daerah yang berpotensi terdapat bijih besi primer berdasarkan rona/warna seluas ± 973,13 Ha pada arah Barat Laut - Selatan IUP dan berdasarkan relief seluas  ± 426,87 Ha pada arah Barat – Tenggara IUP dari total luasan IUP 1.875 Ha. Adapun daerah rekomendasi berdasarkan gabungan kedua parameter tersebut memiliki luasan daerah ± 396,7 Ha pada arah Barat Daya - sedikit di arah Utara  IUP lokasi penelitian.Kata Kunci: Penginderaan Jauh, Bijih Besi Primer, Formasi
