Hubungan Indeks Massa Tubuh Berlebih dengan Kejadian Stroke di Rumah Sakit Banjar Patroman Tahun 2023–2024

Abstract

Stroke is a serious disease that is a major cause of disability and death in the world, including in Indonesia. Obesity, which is often measured by Body Mass Index (BMI), has been known to be one of the main risk factors for stroke. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between excess body mass index and stroke incidence at Banjar Patroman Hospital in 2023–2024. This research method is observational analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The subjects of this study were 116 inpatient stroke patients at Banjar Patroman Hospital in 2023–2024 who were taken using the Total Population Sampling technique, the research sample came from the medical records of outpatients at the Banjar Hospital neurology polyclinic. Statistical analysis used the chi-square test. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between excess body mass index and stroke incidence at Banjar Patroman Hospital with a p value = 0.998. In conclusion, excess body mass index often occurs and is a risk factor for stroke but does not have much influence in this study. These results suggest that obesity is recognized as a risk factor for stroke, other factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and lifestyle also need to be considered in the analysis of stroke risk. Further research is needed to explore the interaction between various risk factors and their impact on stroke incidence. Although national data show an increasing prevalence of stroke and obesity, there is a lack of specific data regarding the local population at Banjar Patroman Hospital.
