Abstact. Mental retardation is a disorder that includes general intellectual function below average. With his intellectual limitations, the child’s with mental retardation experiences many difficulties and other limitations in aspects of his life, such as limitations in self-help, difficulty of adjustment, language limitations, and so on. But with all the limitations that are owned, child with mental retardation in community X Bandung able to excel as a sports athlete. Achievement of children tunagrahita in this sport can not be separated from the role of mother as a caregiver. It takes the right parenting method so that the mother can direct the child with mental retardation to become a sports athlete. This study is a descriptive study with a population of 25 people. The purpose of this study is to see how the parenting is applied by the mother of the athlete with mental retardation in Community X Bandung. The measuring tool used is a questionnaire compiled based on Ellen Skinner's theory, et al (2005). The results showed that there is a prominent parenting dimension in the mother of the athlete with mental retardation in Community X Bandung, namely the dimensions of warmth (68%), structure (60%), and autonomy support (92%).Keywords: Parenting, Mental Retardation, Athlete Abstrak. Tunagrahita adalah suatu kelainan yang meliputi fungsi intelektual umum dibawah rata-rata. Dengan keterbatasan intelektual yang dimilikinya, anak tunagrahita mengalami banyak kesulitan dan keterbatasan lain dalam aspek-aspek kehidupannya, seperti keterbatasan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan (self help), kesulitan penyesuaian diri, keterbatasan bahasa, dan lain-lain. Namun dengan segala keterbatasan yang dimiliki, anak tunagrahita di komunitas X Bandung mampu berprestasi sebagai atlet olahraga. Prestasi anak tunagrahita dalam olahraga ini tidak lepas dari peran ibu sebagai pengasuh. Diperlukan parenting yang tepat sehingga ibu dapat mengarahkan anak untuk menjadi seorang atlet olahraga. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan jumlah populasi sebanyak 25 orang. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat bagaimana parenting yang diterapkan oleh ibu dari atlet penyandang tunagrahita di Komunitas X Bandung. Alat ukur yang digunakan merupakan kuisioner yang disusun berdasarkan teori Ellen Skinner, dkk (2005). Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat dimensi parenting yang menonjol pada Ibu dari atlet penyandang tunagrahita di Komunitas X Bandung, yaitu dimensi warmth (68%), structure (60%), dan autonomy support (92%).Kata Kunci: Parenting, Tunagrahita, Atlet |
