Abstract. Child development is said to be good if the child is able to complete his developmental tasks, meaning that a developmental task that appears at a certain period if successfully achieved will bring success at the next development stage. One aspect of the developmental task is the social aspect. Social maturity needs to be achieved so that children can fulfill further developmental tasks according to their age. One of the factors related to the social maturity of preschool children is effective communication with parents, especially mothers. Interpersonal communication between mother and child is face-to-face communication carried out by mother and child, in which there are cultural values or rules that are instilled in children as provisions for living a wider life. The communication that exists between mother and child will determine the achievement of maturity in children according to the stage of their developmental age, especially in the social aspect. The research objective was to see how closely the relationship between parent-child interpersonal communication and social maturity of preschool children in Batam City. The sample in this study amounted to 40 subjects. The method used is correlational. The measuring instrument used is an interpersonal communication measurement tool that has been carried out by previous researchers who refer to the interpersonal communication theory of Devito (2011) and the Vineland Social Maturity Scale (VSMS) by Doll (1965). The results of the study the relationship between mother-child interpersonal communication with the social maturity of preschool children was 0.483 with a significant p value of 0.001 (p <0.05).Keywords: interpersonal communication, social maturity, preschool childrenAbstrak. Perkembangan anak dikatakan baik apabila anak mampu menyelesaikan tugas perkembangannya, artinya suatu tugas perkembangan yang muncul pada periode tertentu jika berhasil dicapai akan membawa keberhasilan pada tahapan perkembangan selanjutnya. Salah satu aspek dalam tugas perkembangan adalah aspek sosial. Kematangan sosial perlu dicapai agar anak dapat memenuhi tugas perkembangan selanjutnya sesuai dengan usianya. Salah satu faktor yang berkaitan dengan kematangan sosial anak usia prasekolah adalah komunikasi yang efektif dengan orang tua, khususnya ibu. Komunikasi interpersonal antara ibu dan anak adalah komunikasi tatap muka yang dilakukan ibu dan anak, dimana didalamnya terdapat nilai-nilai budaya atau aturan yang ditanamkan kepada anak sebagai bekal dalam menjalani kehidupan yang lebih luas. Komunikasi yang terjalin antara ibu dan anak akan menentukan ketercapaian kematangan pada anak sesuai dengan tahapan usia perkembangannya, khususnya pada aspek sosial. Tujuan penelitian untuk melihat seberapa erat hubungan komunikasi interpersonal orang tua-anak dengan kematangan sosial anak prasekolah di Kota Batam. Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 40 subjek. Metode yang digunakan adalah korelasional. Alat ukur yang digunakan adalah alat ukur komunikasi interpersonal yang telah dilakukan oleh peneliti sebelumnya yang mengacu pada teori komunikasi interpersonal Devito (2011) dan Vineland Social Maturity Scale (VSMS) oleh Doll (1965). Hasil dari penelitian hubungan antara komunikasi interpersonal ibu-anak dengan kematangan sosial anak prasekolah sebesar 0,483 dengan nilai signifikan p sebesar 0,001 (p<0,05).Katakunci: komunikasi interpersonal, kematangan sosial, anak prasekolah |
