dc.description Abstract. Dental caries is a disease of tissue damage on the surface of a tooth and develops up to the pulp. Dental caries is caused by Streptococcus mutans. Bidara arab leaves (Ziziphus spina-christi L.) is a plant found in the Qur'an and has various properties, one of which is antibacterial because it contains secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, polyphenols, and tannins. The purpose of this study was to make a preparation of bidara arab leaves extract with a variety of CMC Na concentrations as a binder. CMC Na concentration used 1-6% and the best optimization formula is F5 which contains CMC Na of 5%. Testing the antibacterial activity of water extracts and ethanol 70% bidara arab was carried out using agar diffusion method and the results obtained by water extract did not produce clear zones and for ethanol 70% extract had clear zones at concentrations of 3.5% and 4.5%. Ethanol 70% extract with a concentration of 4.5% is formulated into a toothpaste preparation. Evaluation of preparations made included organoleptic, homogeneity, dispersibility, pH, and high foam. The observations showed that the ethanol extract of 70% bidara arab leaves for organoleptic test was brown, minty, spicy, semi-solid, homogeneous, the range of spread was 5-5,5 cm, the pH value was 7, and the height range was foam 6-8 cm.Keywords: Bidara arab leaves, toothpaste, Streptococcus mutans, CMC NaAbstrak. Karies gigi adalah penyakit kerusakan jaringan pada permukaan gigi dan berkembang sampai ke pulpa. Karies gigi disebabkan oleh bakteri Streptococcus mutans. Daun bidara arab (Ziziphus spina-christi L.) merupakan tumbuhan yang terdapat di dalam Al-Qur’an serta memiliki berbagai macam khasiat salah satunya sebagai antibakteri karena mengandung metabolit sekunder seperti alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, polifenolat, dan tannin. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk membuat sediaan pasta gigi ekstrak daun bidara arab dengan variasi konsentrasi CMC Na sebagai bahan pengikat. Konsentrasi CMC Na yang digunakan 1-6% dan formula optimasi yang terbaik adalah F5 yang mengandung CMC Na sebesar 5%. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak air dan etanol 70% bidara arab dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode difusi agar dan hasil yang diperoleh ekstrak air tidak menghasilkan zona bening dan untuk ekstrak etanol 70% memiliki zona bening pada konsentrasi 3,5% dan 4,5%. Ekstrak etanol 70% dengan konsentrasi 4,5% diformulasikan ke dalam sediaan pasta gigi. Evaluasi sediaan yang dilakukan meliputi organoleptik, homogenitas, daya sebar, pH, dan tinggi busa. Hasil pengamatan menunjukan sediaan pasta gigi ekstrak etanol 70% daun bidara arab untuk uji organoleptik berwarna coklat, beraroma mint, rasa pedas, berbentuk semi solid, homogen, rentang daya sebar 5-5,5 cm, nilai pH 7, dan rentang tinggi busa 6-8 cm.Kata Kunci: Daun bidara arab, pasta gigi, Streptococcus mutans, CMC Na.
