Abstract: There are too much natural substances in Indonesia that can be used as a cosmetic ingredient. Use of cosmetics in the form of sunscreens containing antioxidants will be a solution to counteract free radicals from ultraviolet (UV) light. Based on this phenomenon, the problems in this study are formulated as follows: (1) What is the content of compounds found in rose’s leaf? (2) Does rose leaf extract have potential as an antioxidant? (3) Does rose leaf extract have potential as a sunscreen?. The researcher used DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-pikrihydrazyl) damping method and SPF values contained in rose leaf extract using UV-Vis spectrophotometry method in vitro. The results of this study as the following: (1) The compounds contained in leaves extract of red rose (Rosa sp L.) are flavonoids, polyphenolates and triterpenoids which obtained from the results of phytochemical screening. (2) antioxidant potential of red rose leaf extract (Rosa sp L.) are indicated by IC50 has values 47.29 µg/mL which means they have a strong level of antioxidant activity. (3) In the activity of red rose extract (Rosa Sp L.) as sunscreen with a concentration of 100 ppm can be categorized as extra protection with the SPF value of 7.26.Keywords: Antioxidants, Rose Leaves Extract, Sunscreens.Abstrak: Bahan alam di Indonesia sangat banyak dan dapat dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat sebagai bahan kosmetik. Pemanfaatan kosmetik berupa tabir surya yang mengandung antioksidan dirasa akan menjadi solusi untuk menangkal radikal bebas dari sinar ultraviolet (UV). Berdasarkan fenomena tersebut, maka permasalahan dalam penelitian ini dirumuskan sebagai berikut: (1) Apakah kandungan senyawa yang terdapat pada daun mawar? (2) Apakah ekstrak daun mawar memiliki potensi sebagai antioksidan? (3) Apakah ekstrak daun mawar memiliki potensi sebagai tabir surya? Peneliti menggunakan metode peredaman DPPH (2,2-difenil-1-pikrihidrazil) dan nilai SPF yang terkandung dalam ekstrak daun mawar dengan metode spektrofotometri UV-Vis secara in vitro. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: (1)  Senyawa yang terkandung dalam daun dan ekstrak mawar merah (Rosa sp L.) adalah flavonoid, polifenolat dan triterpenoid yang didapatkan dari hasil skrining fitokimia. (2) Hasil potensi antioksidan ekstrak daun mawar merah (Rosa sp L.) ditunjukkan dengan nilai IC50 sebesar 47,29 µg/mL yang artinya memiliki tingkat aktivitas antioksidan yang kuat. (3) Pada aktivitas tabir surya ekstrak daun mawar merah (Rosa Sp L.) dengan konsentrasi 100 ppm termasuk kedalam kategori proteksi ekstra dengan hasil nilai SPF sebesar 7,26.Kata Kunci: Antioksidan, Ekstrak Daun Mawar, Tabir Surya.
