Western culture influence Indonesian culture embraced by the Indonesian people. Western culture does not give bad influence. Each individual is supposed to understand what should be absorbed from outside cultural influences. Therefore, if someone can filter any incoming culture, cultural identity shift will not be happened. The purpose of this study is to examine the Cultural Transformation Process of the Center English Bandung Members by using Dell Hymes ethnographic analysis method covering the situation of communications, event communications, and acts of communication. Field observation was also performed in the form of direct interviews with two key informants, and indirectly via e-mail. Based on the research results, The Center English Bandung was founded on May 31, 2002 in Bandung. The establishment of The Center English Bandung is for anyone who is aware that English is a language that must be mastered by everyone. With the help of native speakers, it facilitates English language learning for its members. It is undeniable that the existence of native brought the influx of Western culture that is absorbed by the members of The Center English Bandung. Thus, in the English language learning, the members of The Center English language Bandung gain the process of transformation. Of the three processes of transformation of the culture, language makes the strongest cultural transformation among members of The Center English Bandung. |

Budaya Barat yang masuk ke Indonesia membawa pengaruh terhadap budaya yang sudah dianut oleh masyarakat. Tidak semua budaya Barat membawa pengaruh buruk di dalamnya. Setiap individu memang seharusnya dapat mamahami apa yang patut diserap dari setiap pengaruh budaya luar. Maka, jika seseorang dapat menyaring setiap budaya yang masuk, pergeseran identitas budaya tidak akan terjadi.Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui bagaimana Proses Transformasi Budaya Anggota The Center English Bandung, dengan metode analisis etnografi Dell Hymes mengenai situasi komunikasi, peristiwa komunikasi, dan tindak komunikasi. Observasi lapangan pun penulis lakukan dalam bentuk wawancara langsung dengan dua narasumber kunci, dan tidak langsung yaitu melalui e-mail. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian. The Center English Bandung berdiri pada 31 Mei 2002 di Bandung. Berdirinya The Center English Bandung atas kepedulian bagi siapapun yang menyadari jika bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa yang harus dikuasai oleh setiap orang. Dengan bantuan oleh seorang native asal Amerika mempermudah pembelajaran bahasa Inggris untuk anggota. Tidak dapat dipungkiri keberadaan native membawa masuknya budaya Barat yang diserap oleh anggota The Center English Bandung. Maka, dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang diikuti anggota The Center English Bandung terjadilah proses transformasi bahasa, proses transformasi penampilan dan proses transfromasi permainan. Dari ketiga proses transformasi budaya tersebut, proses transformasi bahasa dan penampilan menjadi proses transformasi terkuat yang membuat anggota The Center English Bandung mengalami transformasi budaya. |
