dc.description Abstract. The 2019 presidential election seems to be one of the hot topics to be covered on the news. During the 2019 presidential election, media and politics seems to clash with many media owners who jumped into the vortex of the event. This causes the public to lose their trusts to the independence of media, the neutrality of media, and the truth of its news. This study aims to find out how the independence of media reporting the presidential election to in the online media of Kompas.com and Republika.co.id. This study uses qualitative research methods with Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse analysis approach. The subject of this research is the independence of the media in reporting the 2019 presidential election campaign published in the online mass media of Kompas.com and Republika.co.id. The research objects used were: Legal Team news 01 Denies Jokowi Contribute 19 Billion Rupiah For Campaign Funds published by Kompas.com, The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia news: Prabowo-Sandi’s Proposition of Violate Campaign Funds by 01 is Not Proven published by Kompas.com, Legal Team 02 Questioning about Jokowi-Ma'ruf Campaign Funds published by Republika.co.id, Budget news Jokowi-Ma'ruf's Campaign on Legal Team 02 published by Republika.co.id. The result of this study is that the independence of Kompas Online media is not so visible with the short news that has been posted. Kompas Online tends to play it safe in reporting cases of alleged misappropriation of 2019 campaign funds while Republika Online does not show its independence through a word from its news text.  But from the way the media provides detailed information and cover both sides with running news.Keywords: Media Independence, News, 2019 Presidential Election Campaign, Online Mass Media, Norman Fairclough Critical Discourse AnalysisAbstrak. Pemilihan presiden 2019 menjadi salah satu topik hangat dalam pemberitaan. Pada pemilihan presiden 2019, media dan politik terlihat beradu dengan banyaknya pemilik media yang terjun ke dalam pusaran perhelatan pilpres 2019. Hal ini mengakibatkan masyarakat kehilangan kepercayaan pada independensi media, netralitas media, dan kebenaran beritanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana independensi media dalam memberitakan pemilihan presiden di media massa online Kompas.com dan Republika.co.id. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis wacana Kritis Norman Fairclough. Subjek penelitian ini yaitu independensi media dalam pemberitaan kampanye pilpres 2019 yang dipublikasikan dalam media massa online Kompas.com dan Republika.co.id. Objek penelitian yang dipakai yaitu: Berita Tim Hukum 01 Bantah Jokowi Sumbang Rp. 19 Miliar Untuk Dana Kampanye diterbitkan Kompas.com, berita MK: Dalil Prabowo-Sandi Soal Pelanggaran Dana Kampanye 01 Tidak Terbukti diterbitkan Kompas.com, berita Tim Hukum 02 Persoalkan Dana Kampanye Jokowi-Ma’ruf diterbitkan Republika.co.id, berita Dana Kampanye Jokowi-Ma’ruf Disoal Tim Hukum 02 diterbitkan Republika.co.id. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah independensi media Kompas Online tidak begitu terlihat dengan pendeknya berita yang diposting. Kompas Online cenderung main aman dalam memberitakan kasus dugaan penyelewangan dana kampanye 2019 sedangkan Republika Online tidak memperlihatkan independensinya lewat sebuah kata dari teks beritanya. Melainkan dari cara media tersebut memberikan informasi secara rinci dan cover both side dengan berita running.Kata Kunci: Independensi Media, Berita, Kampanye Pilpres 2019, Media Massa Online, Analisis Wacana Kritis Norman Fairclough
