Abstract.Every family wants to have children who can grow and develop normally, but in reality there are some children who are born with special needs, one of which is Down syndrome. Down Syndrome is a disorder that occurs trisomy 21, so that disruption of genetic information. Down syndrome children have more special care and attention than most children, so this can be a stressor for parents, especially mothers. One way to deal with stress is social support. The POTADS community provides mutual support to fellow mothers, so that from this support the mother is more proud of her child with Down syndrome. This study aims to determine the relationship of social support with self esteem. The method used is correlational. This study involved 32 respondents. Measuring instruments used in the form of a questionnaire proposed by Sarafino & Smith (2011) and Coopersmith (1967). The results obtained are the closeness of the relationship that is equal to 0.796, with the most closely related aspect of emotional support with 0.745.Keywords: Social Support, Self Esteem, Down Syndrome Abstrak.Setiap keluarga menginginkan memiliki anak yang dapat tumbuh dan berkembang secara normal, namun pada kenyataannya ada beberapa anak yang lahir dengan kebutuhan khusus, salah satunya adalah down syndrome. Down Syndrome adalah sebuah kelainan yang terjadi trisomi 21, sehingga terganggunya informasi genetika. Anak down syndrome memiliki perawatan dan perhatian lebih khusus dibandingkan anak kebanyakan, sehingga hal ini dapat menjadi suatu stressor bagi orang tua khususnya ibu. Salah satu dalam mengatasi stress adalah dengan adanya dukungan sosial. Komunitas POTADS saling memberikan dukungan kepada sesama ibu, sehingga dari dukungan tersebut menghasilkan ibu semakin bangga dengan anaknya yang down syndrome. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan dukungan sosial dengan self esteem. Metode yang digunakan adalah korelasional. Penelitian ini melibatkan 32 responden. Alat ukur yang digunakan berupa kuesioner yang dikemukakan oleh Sarafino & Smith (2011) dan Coopersmith (1967). Hasil yang diperoleh adanya keeratan hubungan yaitu sebesar 0,796, dengan aspek paling erat hubungannya yaitu emotional support dengan sebesar 0,745.Kata Kunci :DukunganSosial, Self Esteem, Down Syndrome |
