Description:
Abstract. Chronic Kidney Disease is one of the deadliest diseases in the world with high prevalence, high cost, and poor prognosis, along with the increase in comorbidities. Erythropoietin is a glycoprotein hormone that has red blood cells stimulation as it function where recombinant erythropoietin (epoetin) is produced from mammalian cells with indications for CKD patients with anemia. This literature study aims to compare the effectiveness of epoetin alpha and epoetin beta on hematological parameters (erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and hematocrit) in chronic kidney disease patients with undergoing hemodialysis. Literature review was examined as research method on this journal from 10 national journals and 10 international journals. Three studies compared both types of epoetin which can increase erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and hematocrit. Other studies provide information of one type of epoetin. The other studies also explained the route of administration, dose, and time of administration. According to the 20 researchers, it can be concluded that epoetin alpha is more effective than epoetin beta in increasing hematologic parameters, which are erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and hematocrit. Keywords: Chronic Kidney Disease, Epoetin Alpha, Epoetin Beta, Erythrocytes, Hemoglobin, Hematocrit.
