Abstract. Bidara arab leaf contains alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tannin, and polyphenolate compounds. These compounds can inhibit the growth of oral bacteria, such as Streptococcus mutans which causes dental caries. Based on its antibacterial properties, bidara arab leaf extract can be developed into a gargarisma to prevent the formation of dental plaque. This research was made to formulate gargarisma from bidara arab leaf extracts. Bidara arab leaf extract was conducted using maceration method with water solvent. The main ingredients used in making gargarisma were water extracts with concentrations of 5% and 20%. Evaluations carried out include organoleptic and pH. Organoleptic test results were no change in color, aroma, taste, and clarity of gargarisma. The pH test gives a value of 5. These result meet the gargarisma pH standard of 4.5-7.5. Bidara arab leaf extract can be formulated into gargarisma preparations and meet the physical requirements of checking organoleptic testing and pH testing.Keywords: Dental caries, Streptococcus mutans, Bidara arab leaf, GargarismaAbstrak. Daun bidara arab diketahui memiliki kandungan senyawa alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tanin, dan polifenolat. Senyawa tersebut dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri rongga mulut, salah satunya Streptococcus mutans penyebab karies gigi. Berdasarkan sifat antibakterinya, ekstrak daun bidara arab dapat dikembangkan menjadi sediaan gargarisma untuk mencegah pembentukkan plak gigi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat formulasi sediaan gargarisma dari ekstrak daun bidara arab. Ekstrak daun bidara arab dibuat menggunakan metode maserasi dengan pelarut air. Bahan utama yang digunakan dalam pembuatan gargarisma adalah ekstrak air dengan konsentrasi 5% dan 20%. Evaluasi yang dilakukan meliputi organoleptis dan pH. Hasil pengujian organoleptis tidak menunjukkan perubahan pada warna, aroma, rasa, dan kejernihan pada gargarisma. Pengujian pH memberikan nilai 5. Nilai tersebut memenuhi standar pH gargarisma 4,5-7,5. Ekstrak daun bidara arab dapat diformulasikan ke dalam sediaan gargarisma dan memenuhi persyaratan fisik meliputi pengujian organoleptis dan pengujian pH.Kata Kunci: Karies gigi, Streptococcus mutans, Daun bidara arab, Gargarisma |
