Abstract. Dental caries are a disease caused by the activity of sour bacteria capable of carbohydrate fermentation found in human consumption. The search of this research library, a similarity of a secondary metabolic compounds to ten different types of plants is flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin and tannin that are thought to be the potential antibacterial Streptococcus mutans. The purpose of this study recognized the potential of herbal plants as antibacterial to bacteria that cause tooth from different sources of literature. Studies are being carried out through the article review methods of international and national journals on the same subject and related to the subject being reviewed. The results have been obtained that ten plants are binahong leaves (Anredera cordifolia Steenis), red betel leaves (Piper crocatum), basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum Linn), stevia (Stevia rebaudiana), mangosteen skin (Garcinia mangostana L), areca nut (Areca catechu L), lime (Citrus aurantifolia), avocado nut (Persea americana Mill), lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) and pegagan leaves (Centella asiatica (L). Karies gigi adalah penyakit pada gigi akibat adanya aktivitas bakteri penghasil asam yang mampu melakukan fermentasi karbohidrat yang di konsumsi manusia. Pada penelusuran pustaka penelitian ini didapatkan kesamaan senyawa metabolit sekunder pada sepuluh jenis tanaman ialah flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin dan tannin yang diduga berpotensi sebagai antibakteri Streptococcus mutans. Tujuan dari penelitian ini mengetahui potensi tanaman herbal sebagai antibakteri terhadap bakteri penyebab karies gigi dari berbagai sumber literatur. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metode review article dari jurnal internasional dan nasional berdasarkan pokok bahasan yang sama maupun yang masih berkaitan dengan tema yang akan di analisis. Hasil yang didapatkan bahwa terdapat sepuluh tanaman di antaranya daun binahong (Anredera Cordifolia Steenis), daun sirih merah (Piper crocatum), daun kemangi (Ocimum basilicum Linn), daun stevia (Stevia rebaudiana), kulit manggis (Garcinia mangostana L), biji pinang (Areca catechu L.), jeruk nipis (Citrus Aurantifolia), biji buah alpukat (Persea americana Mill.), serai (Cymbopogon citratus) dan daun pegagan (Centella asiatica (L).
